The Weekend Report...........

Saturday.....
I love watching The Man and The Youngun' together.  My folks came down on Saturday for a visit and I went with my mom to walk her dog.  When I came back I found them together in the garage, potting the cactus he bought for her.

Doesn't look a bit like her Daddy does she??
Then about 5 pm we were out doing chores early and the tornado siren blew.  We went to the house and watched out the door.  It was a very fast moving storm.  The Youngun was scared but we said a prayer, and remembered that God is always with us!  All we wound up with was this....

Thankfully, no damage!

Sunday......

Now that I'm milking again we have plenty of milk for making ice cream!  When my girls are in milk, we make homemade ice cream 'bout every two weeks.  The Man isn't much of a dessert eater, but he does like a bowl of ice cream every night after supper.  Since we've been without milk since October, we've had to buy store ice cream and it just doesn't hold a candle to the real thing!  On Saturday I mixed the ice cream up and put it in the fridge.  Sunday afternoon we got out the White Mountain!  I have to confess to you that I'm a total ice cream snob.  You just can't make good homemade ice cream without a hand cranked freezer.  It may be easier to just plug 'er in and let 'er go, but it sure doesn't make near as good ice cream.  Besides, The Man and I enjoy sitting out on the back stoop taking turns cranking and eating salty ice.  Today however, it was very windy and rainy so we made it in the garage!

Pouring the mix into the freezer...
Ready to freeze.....
Goodwife cranking.........
The Man cranking......

Yummy, rich, creamy ice cream!

This time we made cookies and cream.  We usually make different varieties each time.  Sometimes it's cookies and cream, sometimes it's peanut butter cup, or strawberry, or chocolate malt, or chocolate chip cookie dough, and sometimes it's plain ole vanilla.  Whatever type we make it's always good!

Here's hoping you had a good weekend full of thankfulness and grace!

Till next time..........God Bless

  1. We love homemade ice cream, but I confess we have the plug in machine...atually my 15 yo got it for Christmas when he was 12. (I think.) He loves it! The tornado sirens are no fun, glad you all are safe. We had the sirens often when we lived in OH but not here in WNY. phew.
Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend!

  4. I am with you, the only way to make truely good ice cream is in a hand crank machine. I must confess though the kids call it "Butt Cream" because they have to take turns sitting on our machine because the latch broke a few years ago and i haven't found another hand crank barrel or even a latch that will work on it.

  6. Oh, Oh! you make me miss our milk/cream even more now *wink* I can't wait for Addy to calve, she's due on Fri, may go sooner, we're watching her for signs.

Glad you didn't suffer any damage from the storm, even if there was hail, I'm quite sure it could have been much worse.

I dislike lightening storms, we don't get tornadoes here, but do get lightening and hail storms. One year we had hail that was golfball to baseball sized, tore up everything, roofs, windows, cars, gardens, trees, animals( without shelter, killed a horse down the road) etc... It was a mess and VERY scarey. Then the same year a tree at the bottom of our property was struck by lightening, I really do hate it and our one dog, Casino, really hates it too.

Praying for you and for saftey from storms.
    Blessings,
    Kelle

  7. Yumm! The ice cream looks SO good!

I'm glad you didn't have any damage from the storms. It blew really hard here and I brought some of the goats inside the big barn for better shelter. But, thankfully, no damage here either.

  8. Oh man, that looks so good. Can I come over when you make chocolate chip cookie dough?!

Thank goodness you didn't have any damage. The storms are gonna be bad this Spring. My parents are in the Panhandle of Texas and there have been tornados poppin' up everywhere. I grew up with them so I'm like y'all. Go inside and watch for them!
