Shine On.........

I follow the blog of a wonderful woman named Lara Katherine Mountain Colley.  She is a mountain woman, in love with the land and I really enjoy her blog.  Recently she did a post on her blog A Mountain Hearth about the artist May Erlewine.  I'd never heard of May and Seth before, but I'm now a big, big fan.

I realize they've been around a while and I'm a little late to the party, but boy do I really like them a lot.  May's voice reminds me so much of Janis Joplin.......in every good way there is.  They are both beautiful and soulful and wonderful and I just had to share!

The song in the clip below is Shine On and it moved me so, that I've listened to it about 10 times in a row!

ps....thanks Flower Lady and Lara for reminding me of how JanIS Joplin's name is actually spelled.......whoops!

Hmmmm, Methinks My Sweater Is an F+++...........

Ok, so I tried to knit my first sweater.  That kooky gal over at The Young Dairy Farmer's Wife knitted herself a coupla sweaters and I thought, well heck maybe I can do that.....well well well, lets just say it didn't go well.
Here I am industriously knitting away on a sleeve........at this point I was not aware of the hideous-ness of my lovingly hand knitted garment...........ahh the bliss of ignorance!

I'm a big gal and so I was worried about it not fitting me; therefore I made it the largest size possible.  I'm also a very tight knitter, so in order to get the gauge correct, I had to use needles that were about 3 sizes bigger than the pattern called for, AND again because I was worried it wouldn't fit, I made sure to knit as loose as I could.  To continue with my list of woes, because the stitches were so loose, when I seamed it up it is atrocious......plus I mattress stitched the seams and I did them backward, so the nice smooth side is inside!

Now, before I show you the picture of my sweater, please remember I said it was my very first sweater as well as all the intel I gave you in paragraph two...........also, there is a light at the end of this sweatery tunnel, I already had the yarn in my stash, so I'm not out any cash!

K, if you think you are ready, here goes............feel free to laugh yourself silly, but if you pee your pants don't expect any sympathy from me!

I'm moving on to socks.........maybe next winter I'll try a sweater again!

the Goodwife Speaks.....................

So Nicole over at That's Life did a vlog post about how you say certain words.  I thought it sounded pretty fun so I'm doing it too and I hope those of you who have the time and the inclination will participate as well.  It reminds me a bit of my contest about What the Heck is She Talkin' Bout?

You all know I'm a hillbilly and this should confirm it.  I also should've watched Nicole's before I did it because I explained myself after each word, which turns out wasn't part of the project.  That said, you all know I like to take the long way 'round the trailer park anytime I tell a story so you shouldn't be suprised that I'm like that in real life!  Anywho, here goes!

My gracious!
update.............  I'm such a dork, I forgot to put the list of words and questions..........no suprise here huh?

Fellow Blogger Contest...........and My Current Projects......

My fellow blogger Jennifer over at Our Little Farm is havin' a contest.  She's got the cutest little pot belly pig named Porkchop and she's havin' a Guess Porkchop's Weight contest.

You all should go check it out!  The only rules are that you must be a follower of her blog (which you should be anyway, cuz she's super cool) and you can only enter once.

Now on to my current project news......

Right  now I'm working on a skinny scarf.........
The picture above shows the texture really well, and the picture below is a better representation of the actual color.

The pattern for this scarf is textured stripes and I like it a lot.  I'll be adding some nice fringe to it when it's done, but I had to stop working on it to work on these.........

Jar gifts for Christmas with The Man's family which is this coming weekend.

I've still got to get two dish rags knitted up for it, and this is the one I'm working on now.  It's the little shells pattern, the first time I'm using it for a dishrag.

I've got 8 jar gifts to make, 2 for each family.  One is a soup in a jar, and the other will be a quick bread in a jar.  The soups will have the dishrag toppers and I'm thinking I'll just do a fabric topper for the bread jars, unless I have time to knit rags for them as well.  I'm going to have to run to Salvation Army to find 4 baskets to put the jars in.  S/A is a GREAT place to buy baskets.  They are only a buck a piece and you can find some really cute ones.

Anywho, go on over there and follow Jennifer's blog and enter the contest!  WAIT!!  Don't....... cuz I really want to win!  ;0)

Punkin Walnut Pie............

Update..........I have to say this wasn't as sweet as I'd like it to be, although it's very, very yummy.  My hefty gal taste buds will be adding a little brown sugar to the filling next time I make it.  It is for sure a keeper though!!  Thanks Ohiofarmgirl!

That pesky gal over at Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in the Goodland is always tempting me with some delicious recipe.  She won me over today with this little gem

It's cooling on the counter right now, and I had to put on my straight jacket to keep from eating it hot out of the oven........I'm sure it will be disgusting, but I'll prolly manage to choke it down......HAHAHA!  Seriously it smells sooo yum-dilly-ish-us and when I stuck the butter knife in to test for doneness and licked it off, it was 7 kinds of fabulous.

Please notice that on the blog post in which she shares this recipe she has a photo caption that says "Suck it monkeys – I'm having pie for breakfast!"  This has to be my favorite photo caption of all time......I'm just sayin'

God Bless.........

May First..........

I've been struggling for almost two months now.  I don't want to struggle with this anymore.  Of course I don't want to have food issues at all, so I suppose that's neither here nor there.  I have been so tired and miserable the past few weeks.  I know it is because of what I'm eating and the fact that I'm not working out.  I don't lead a sedentary lifestyle.  Nobody who lives on a homestead does, but working out, running and lifting weights gives me energy!  I've just been a mess.  So tired and run down.  I know it's my lack of exercise and my food choices catching up to me.  I don't want to be tired anymore and since I'm fortunate in being able to correct the problem, I'm going to!

This morning I was checking my email and my blogs.  Carrie over at Farming on Faith had this post this morning.  As you know in my profile I state that I try to live my life as a Proverbs 31 woman.  There were two parts of this post that really struck me this morning.  This is the first part.  Bold italics is the Bible verse, normal italics is what Carrie wrote.

17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

* She puts on that exercise DVD she bought at Walmart and actually does it! OUCH

She tries to stay healthy for the well being of her family. Every time she fails in this area ~she starts back again. Ok~give yourself another pat on the back here. I feel your pain. Seriously~ we don't feel well when we neglect our physical body. We can't be all we need to be for the Lord if we are not taking care of ourselves. Ouch again!

The second part was this.....

26  She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
* Even when she has PMS she is nice and kind. Even when she has over scheduled
herself again she doesn't make her family pay for it. Ouch again! OK~you might need a nap or two to get this one accomplished. I give you permission to take a power nap. It does a world of good!

Boy howdy!  I needed to hear that this morning.  I went right out and lifted weights.  I know it will make me feel better.  I have to get back on track because the abuse that I'm heaping on my body is sapping the energy I need to be a shining light for Jesus.

Also......anybody who knows me knows that PMS is something I really struggle with.  I totally understand why they used to make women go sit in a hut alone for 3 days.  It would be safer for everybody if my family would make me do that!

Anyway........right now I'm losing the battle, but the tide is turning and I'll never ever give up.  One battle lost does not lose the war!

Till next time...........I'm fighting to be unTHICKINand trying to be THINNIN!
