Quality Time With Steve, and Those Canned Potatoes.........

Tuesday after getting our schooling done The Youngun went out to play in the Hillbilly Swimming Hole and I got out some fabric.
I bought this at Wal-Trash a few months ago just cause I loved it so!  I decided to make an apron out of it.

The pattern pieces all layed out on the fabric.....After taking this picture I noticed that the stripes in the fabric weren't exactly lined up on each side so I unpinned everything, fixed it, and repinned.  I would NEVER have done that in the past.  I would have just said.....pffft, it's good enough.  I'm glad I did though!

This is the apron.  I ran out of black bias tape so I can't finish it and when I went to Wal-Trash today they were out of it...arrggh!  I'm so excited to finish it so I can wear it.  I could make my own bias tape, but I don't have any black fabric either, and since I started with the purchased bias tape, I think it will look better if I finish it that way as well.  I have another pocket to put the bias tape around, then sew on and I have to put bias tape around the yoke, then finish the straps.  I think it's so pretty and it felt great to spend some time with Steve!

In this post I talked about canning potatoes for the first time.  I got them canned up yesterday and opened a jar of them to try last night at supper.  I dumped them in a pan, heated to boiling, drained them, and then mashed the heck out of them with my mixer (cause The Man doesn't like lumpy taters!).  They were delicious!  I added in 1/4 cup of whole goat milk while I beat them and they were so creamy and wonderful.  I didn't even add any butter which is a plus for me being on Weight Watchers and they were still delicious.  This was a really good idea for me because we eat mashed taters a LOT!  I confess to using box taters from Aldi, just because of a time saver since we eat them probably at least 4 nights a week.  This way I can stop using instant and still have them ready in a jiff!

I also had two ladies tell me about a different way to "cellar" using alternative methods.  Thanks Susan and the FarmLady!  The FarmLady recommended a book called Root Cellaring Natural Cold Storage of Fruits and Vegetables by Mike and Nancy Bubel that I requested from the local library.  I'm sure to get some good alternative cellaring ideas from there, until we can get our cellar dug.

On a final note.........could I possibly have any more links in this post???  LOL!

Till next time..........God Bless!

  1. Love love LOVE the apron! I haven't used a sewing machine in years. Two years ago the husband bought me one for Christmas but I made him return it (so ungrateful of me) because I thought he shouldn't have spent the money. Oh, how I regret it now!
    The potatoes...yummmm!

  6. i found a kind of instant mashed taters that are only 1 pt but the real stuff is worth the extra work and points! I bet they're really yummy with goats milk! since I make my own yogurt, I've started making my own yogurt cheese. It's really good whipped up in taters.
