The Fireplace Gourmet........

What's a gal to do when the hankerin' for a roasted wienie hits and you don't have a bonfire?

That's what fireplaces are for my friend!

Today for lunch The Youngun and I had leftover Bear Chili and we were desirous of a roasted wienie to go with it.

Looks good, don't it?

The bear meat was courtesy of our good friend Ryan.  He's an avid hunter of pretty much anything that moves and he gave us some ground bear last fall.  I mixed it with ground beef and made a delish pot of chili for last night's supper and it made a wonderful lunch today with our fireplace hot dogs!

God Bless...........

  3. That is one of the benefits of having wood heat/fireplaces. Our stove you can open the door and if you do it just right no smoke comes out allowing you to roast a hot dog or 2!lol
I have to say though I have never had bear meat.... Of course we dont have many bears and then just little ones and I have never seen them here.

  5. Thanks all for commenting! The ground bear our friend gave us tastes a lot like pork sausage. It made some good chili! He gave us some bear steak as well and it had a different taste, but was still good.

  7. What a great Mom! Youre gonna love it when years later (in front of a boyfriend from college) she'll be bringing up stories at holidays ~ "hey mom, remember when we had bear chili and roasted weinies over the fire in the kitchen?"

    :D
