So Dad is doing well!
Well let me rephrase......his diabetes is pretty well out of control due to the chemo. It was so high the other morning that his meter wouldn't even read it, which means it was around/over 600.
However, the chemo part of his cancer treatment is going well. They have him on the strongest dose of chemo they can give him, his blood counts are all normal (with the sort of exception of his iron and I'll blab about that in a sec.), and the doctor told him that since they were able to get all of the cancer, they were trying to actually cure him, not just keep him alive for 5 extra minutes! :)
The only side effects he's experiencing are fatigue and green beans taste bitter. Yes...green beans. However, this last time he went, his iron count was on the low side of normal. He said they gave him an iron shot and that is helping with the fatigue.
He's in very good spirits and has a strong faith in God's will for him!
In other news, I have so many blog posts I need to do and no time to do them! LOL!
I don't like to do a post without pictures and pictures is what takes the time, so bear with me. I've got a rabbit update coming, a quail update coming, a goat update, a soap update, and I haven't forgotten about those hot turtle bites either! Hopefully this weekend I'll get that stuff blogged about and scheduled!
I hope you are all well and good, safe and snug!
Till next time.....
So glad to hear your Dad is doing well! He may need to see an endocrinologist for his diabetes management if the current MD isn't able to get it under better control though because 600+ is crazzzzzyyyyyyy. One thing I've realized quickly between work and my own health stuff is that doctors have become such specialists now that sometimes they do a REALLY bad job at managing things outside their area. Either way, I'm so glad he is kicking butt and I hope his green beans taste better soon. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, he sees a diabetic specialist. He's had it for well over 20 years and it's been crazy the whole time. He told me they'd better start getting serious about getting it down because he's not about to beat cancer and then go blind or have kidney failure due to the diabetes! It's been a battle the entire time he's had it, never really been under control, however since they removed part of his pancreas, he was having really good readings of around 110 until he started the chemo. Anyway, thanks!! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad your Dad is doing well, and that he is in good spirits.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about needing to write a blog which has photos on it. I don't seem to be able to write a blog unless I have taken pictures to go with it, but at the moment my camera batteries are flat and I can't find my recharger. I remember putting it somewhere safe, but for the life of me can't remember where! Vx
